Learn how parents, guardians, and schools can request a special education evaluation for a student who may need special education and related services. A request for an evaluation can be made when a family or school believes a disability may be affecting a student’s ability to learn or make progress in school. Parents may submit a written request to the school asking for an evaluation at any time. Schools also have a responsibility to refer when there is reason to suspect a disability.
