Surrogate Parent Training

This course provides the required training for individuals who plan to serve as surrogate or foster parents for students with disabilities in Texas. Aligned with the standards set by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), the training covers essential topics such as definitions of special education terms, the legal responsibilities under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and the rights of parents in the special education process. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the special education system and learn how to fulfill the unique responsibilities of a surrogate parent, including how to effectively advocate for a child’s educational needs when no parent is available.
